Changing Things Categorically

I made four fairly significant changes aimed at category functionality.

CATEGORIES MENU – A menu item now appears on the top right. Click on the drop down menu item and see images filed under: People, Landscape, Animals, Candid, Action, Underwater, etc.
CATEGORIES PAGE – Choosing a category menu item or clicking on any category link will bring you to the category page which can display up to 6 thumbnails. Any photos filed under the selected category will be displayed here.
CATEGORIES FOLDER – Under each photo post is the date and time the post was published and next to that is a folder icon. Next to the folder icon is a list of clickable categories. Clicking on any of those category links will bring you to the category page described above.
CATEGORIES CLOUD – In the footer of each photo post (like this one) will be 3D cloud of categories. You can also click on any of those floating category links.

Hopefully these changes will make your user experience here more enjoyable.

Image Captions

I’ve added support for image captions. So now when you mouse over an image on this site, a descriptive caption will appear above the image.

For example, the image on the left has a caption while the one of the right does not. Try it out for yourself by moving your mouse pointer over any portion of the image on the left.

Kaneohe Bay Airshow

My exworker and I went to the Kaneohe Bay Airshow. We did get there a little late but were able to catch a glimpse of an F-22 Raptor which is capable of some pretty crazy maneuvers. This was followed by a Blue Angels demonstration who of course took off to the Top Gun Anthem.

Ian Kekoa’s First Birthday

When my good friends Eric and Jen asked me to document their son Ian’s first birthday, how could I say no. Not only would I probably not be in Hawaii if it wasn’t for them, but little Ian is soooo cute and you pretty much can’t go wrong taking pics of him.

BOH Family Sunday – Unexpected

I take photos every third Sunday of the month at the Bank of Hawaii Family Sunday event which is held at the Honolulu Academy of Art museum. This family friendly event highlights a different monthly theme based on the museum’s permanent collections and/or special exhibitions.

This month’s theme is Unexpected which includes magic shows by The Amazing Mr. O, performances by The Dance Space and aerial acrobatics by Samadhi Hawai’i. Plus write secret messages with invisible ink and make unique monoprints.

BOH Family Sunday – Year of the Tiger

This month’s theme celebrates the Chinese New Year, Year of the Tiger. This month included traditional performances by the Phoenix Dance Chamber and lion dances by Lee Shaolin Boxing Academy. Also do calligraphy with Linda Wyrgatsch.

Dolphin at Manta Ray Night Dive

I’m a big fan of the Manta Ray Night Dive on Kona. If you’re ever on the Big Island, you should check the folks at Kona Honu Divers. They are a highly professional outfit and really take care of you.

On our way out, some dolphins decided to tag along our boat for a while.
